L'Italia nella Grande Migrazione
V Convegno biennale dell' ACIS
(Australasian Centre for Italian Studies)
University of Auckland
Auckland, New Zealand
18-21 February 2009
The migration of individuals, communities, and entire populations from poorer southern nations to the northern nations of the world, what Hans Magnus Enzensberger has called "the great migration," began in the 1970's and continues to grow today, representing the most notable demographic trend of our time. Italy is one of those countries where the effects of this movement have been and continue to be felt very strongly at the economic, political and above all, cultural levels. Millions of people come to Italy and remain for various periods of time. Those who are arriving today and will arrive in the future have transformed not only the culture of their countries of origin and that of Italy, but the very notion of culture. In this conference we plan to explore both the obvious and the hidden effects of this great migration on the economy, history, politics, language and culture of Italy and therefore participants from all areas of Italian studies are invited to contribute to this discussion.
The official languages of the conference are Italian and English.
