ACIS Management Committee

The Australasian Centre for Italian Studies is managed by a committee of academics drawn from universities in Australia and New Zealand, and one Italian university. The members represent all areas in which Italian is taught, and there are also two Early Career Researchers on the committee. The management committee steers all ACIS activities.

Meetings are usually conducted via e-mail and occasionally in person at a conference, when most committee members are present.

Membership of the ACIS Management Committee is as follows:

  • Associate Professor Loretta Baldassar, University of Western Australia (Chair and Founding Member, represents WA)
  • Professor David Moss, Università degli studi di Milano (Founding Member, formerly at Griffith University, Queensland, now our principal contact in Italy)
  • Professor Ros Pesman, University of Sydney (Founding Member, represents NSW)
  • Professor Bill Kent, Monash University (represents Victoria)
  • Professor Nerida Newbigin, University of Sydney (second NSW representative)
  • Associate Professor Gary Ianziti, Queensland University of Technology (represents Queensland)
  • Dr Diana Glenn, Flinders University (represents South Australia)
  • Dr Gino Moliterno, Australian National University (represents ACT)
  • Mr Tony Pagliaro, La Trobe University (second Victoria representative)
  • Ms Gabriella Brussino, University of Auckland (represents New Zealand)
  • Dr Claire Kennedy, Griffith University (Early Career Researcher)
  • Dr Andrea Rizzi, University of Melbourne (Early Career Researcher)

According to the original agreement made with the Cassamarca Foundation, the committee also includes as Executive Officer Mr Peter Leunig, Director of the Office of Development at The University of Western Australia, who provides support on the administration of the funding from the Cassamarca Foundation.

Administrative support is provided by Ms Bianca Galipo (in the Office of Development at The University of Western Australia).

The Cassamarca Lectureships are overseen by a Lectureships sub-committee, comprising Associate Professor Loretta Baldassar, Professor Ros Pesman, Dr Gino Moliterno, and, as an external member, Dr Michael McLure (University of Western Australia).
As the Lectureships move into the new phase of perpetual funding, this committee will gradually be superseded by a larger committee, comprising all of the above, as well as Ms Gabriella Brussino and Mr Tony Pagliaro.

A Cassamarca Scholarships committee is responsible for coordinating and awarding scholarships each year. The members of the committee include Associate Professor Gary Ianziti (Chair), Professor Bill Kent, Dr Gino Moliterno and Associate Professor Loretta Baldassar, as well as members of the Australian Foundation for Studies in Italy (AFSI), whose scholarships are advertised together with those of ACIS.
